J-Town began to be settled in the 1700s by revolutionary war veterans and others, and was incorporated in 1797 and named after Thomas Jefferson, then Vice President of the US. For many years thereafter, many residents continued to call it Brunerstown, after the gentleman who had purchased the land and basically organized the town in the 1700s. Today, J-Town is an incorporated city of about 25,000+ residents, within the city/county government known as Metro Louisville. J-Town is convenient to interstates 64 and 264, has its own government, police force and taxing jurisdiction.
